You probably know that Monserrate is a must-do in Bogota. But, instead of going to see it and taking pictures just because, what about giving yourself the chance to immerse in this citizens’ sanctuary with its official walking tour?
Find our yellow umbrella at the base of the mountain, just in front of the ticket office. Once you have met our tour guide and the rest of the group, this hour-and-half tour will start. To begin with, he will explain to you how Monserrate became a place of pilgrimage and how, overtime, it also became a touristic place due to its outstanding viewpoints of Bogotá and a hiking destination or a workout zone for those who are into exercising.
You will walk along the Stations of the Cross Path (Via Crucis) while you learn more about our characteristic flora and fauna. You will be part of the wishing well tradition of flipping coins and making wishes (a costume that has been there for decades) by flipping your own coin.
Afterwards you will be able to stop in the viewpoint where photos of the imposing views of the city will be taken. You will get to know all the superstitions, sayings and interesting though most of the times unknown facts about the hill. You will walk inside the Basilica of the Fallen Lord of Monserrate to understand the importance of Catholicism for Colombians’ identity.
We assure you this will be a whole different way of visiting such a touristic place.
