¿What to expect from this 3-day expedition in Villavieja and Tatacoa?

Villavieja and Neiva are waiting to offer you a totally local experience in a destination that will surprise you. We take you through the impressive geography of this region and the surrounding deserts. In this expedition you will do hiking, astronomical observation, canoeing on the Magdalena River, and visits to museums in the region. The most complete experience you can have in Huila.

Itinerary

In the afternoon of the first day, our local guide will pick you up at your hotel to start an interesting City Tour of Villavieja. Visit the Paleontological Museum, and the Museum Casa Artesanal del Totumo. Visit the most important places of Villavieja to learn about the traditions, customs, and history of the town. At night visit the astronomical observatory and participate in a talk to learn from the astronomer about the constellations and stars. Participate in an observation experience through telescopes.

In the morning of this day, take a motocanoa ride on the Magdalena River. The fishermen will tell you about the myths and legends of the region. The guide will explain about the fauna and flora that can be sighted. And if you want to relax a little, you can jump into the water and enjoy the river for a while. In the afternoon, you will begin your hike through the exotic landscapes of this ecosystem. Visit the deserts of El Cusco, Los Hoyos and the red zone of the desert. An ecosystem that seems to be from another planet.

On the last day you will enjoy your morning free until check-out time at your accommodation. This will be the end of an incomparable tour through this traditional and charming region of Colombia.

The climate you will experience in La Tatacoa, Villavieja and Neiva is hot. Temperatures vary between 24°C and 37°C. At times it can reach 40°C. The tour operates in all weather conditions, so dress appropriately and don't forget to wear sunscreen.

You can do this tour of La Tatacoa any day of the year. The most recommended months are June, July, August, October, November and December, which is usually the driest season and there are clearer skies.

It is best to wear clothes that will keep you cool and protect you from the sun. Light clothing, sunglasses, hats, sunscreen and comfortable shoes are the most common items to wear. You can also bring insect repellent. Remember that this tour is done on foot.
