We all should discover and mesmerize at the greatness of the Amazon river once in our lifetime. In this 5-day journey, you will be deeply connected with nature and the locals while exploring the ecological environment of the Colombian Amazon and its borders with Brazil and Peru.
Visit Leticia and Puerto Nariño, enjoy hikes through the tropical rainforest and some natural reservoirs. Also, learn about indigenous culture from their own hands. All of this is focused on sustainable tourism and local experiences. This 5-day trip is designed for bold travelers who want to have an authentic and deeper connection with nature and locals. Take this opportunity to immerse yourself in unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, including a nocturnal safari if you wish.. If you want a shorter experience, we’ve got it! We recommend you take a look at our Amazonas Three Borders 3-Day Tour.
The journey will begin at Leticia’s airport. After paying the tourism tax, you will meet one of our local guides who will welcome you. Your first stop will be the San Antonio Indigenous Reserve. To visit this community, you will take walks through the jungle while learning about the medicinal uses of traditional plants. Enjoy your lunch and rest. Spend your first night in this reserve (you can choose to sleep in hammocks).
On your second day, enjoy breakfast and then return to Leticia to embark on a different adventure in the Flor de Loto Natural Reserve. Depending on the season, you will either navigate the flooded jungle or walk through it to reach the location. Here, you can enjoy many activities such as birdwatching, canoeing or kayaking, artisanal fishing, a night outing, and swimming in the lake or the Amazon River (depending on the season). Spend a night here completely disconnected.
On this day, enjoy your breakfast and then take a boat to reach Puerto Nariño, a beautiful small town without cars and with incredible views. After a short walk and enjoying a local lunch, you will tour the surrounding communities, visit the lookout tower, craft shops, relevant monuments for the community's history, and much more. Toward the end of the day, a family from the Tikuna indigenous community will invite you to dinner in their maloca. You will end the night with a nocturnal walk and return to your accommodation for rest.
After breakfast, you will take another boat to visit the Peruvian community of San Antonio, also known as Cacao Island. There, you will explore an ecological trail created by the community to observe, study, and protect primates, birds, and especially sloths. After the tour, you will enjoy a traditional lunch and return to Puerto Nariño. You will make one last stop at the Correo Lakes to look for pink and gray dolphins and enjoy a swim in its natural waters. You will return to your accommodation for your final night. (If chosen, a nocturnal safari can be arranged)
On your last day, after breakfast, you will visit the Natutama community project. This center, created by locals, aims to learn about and, above all, educate on the conservation of this region. After this visit, you will return to Leticia and head to the airport for your departure.
We recommend wearing long sleeves and long pants, as well as using repellent, this way you will avoid getting bitten by mosquitos or other insects. A hat or a cap and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun is advisable too. As you will be deep in the rainforest, you should bring waterproof clothing. A pair of rubber boots will be given to you so you can walk comfortably through the jungle.
The weather in the department of Amazonas is mainly of a warm humid type; characterized by high temperatures and frequent rains. The average temperature doesn’t present great variations during the year, with a constant average of 25°C (77°F).
Yellow fever is endemic in tropical areas, the Amazon is one of these risk areas. Vaccination is the most important preventive measure, it is safe, affordable, and offers effective immunity after two weeks since its application in 95% of vaccinated people.
South America's Amazonas contains nearly a third of all the tropical rainforests left on Earth. It covers 1% of the planet’s surface but is home to approximately 10% of all the wildlife species known to man. If you are lucky, you will enjoy the view of macaws, toucans, freshwater dolphins, howler monkeys, and jaguars.
Our team will give you some essentials that you are going to need during this 5-day adventure. For example, rubber boots make the walks a lot more comfortable. Please make sure to bring your own flashlights, remember you will spend 2 nights in a place with no electric power.
