In this full-day tour, you will go outside Cartagena to the first stop: El Totumo, the smallest volcano in Colombia. Take a bath in the warm and thick mud that has medicinal benefits and then wash the mud up in a lake near the volcano. After this first experience, go to Manzanillo beach, to enjoy the rest of the day in the ocean. Dare yourself to try something different with us!
This is a tour for bold travelers who enjoy doing things out of the ordinary. In Colombia, there is a small volcano full of healing and medicinal mud and we want you to experience it. Jump in, relax for a while, and then, end your day relaxing and refreshing at a Manzanillo beach and enjoy the Colombian pardises.
To go there, our guide will pick you up early in the morning and head north to El Totumo volcano. The volcano and its simple infrastructure are maintained by locals who will guide you to the stairs and on the way up to the top from where you will be able to contemplate the landscape of the Totumo swamp.
Once there, you will enter the mud crater. But don’t worry, although it seems to have no bottom, it will be impossible to sink because of the thickness of the mud. Minerals found in the mud work as an exfoliant for the skin, and for the body, they can help relieve muscle and joint pain and aid circulation.
After relaxing and enjoying the warm temperature of the mud bath, we will go down to the Totumo swamp or lagoon to clean yourselves.
From there, the guide will take you to the town of Manzanillo where you will enjoy a delicious Caribbean lunch with fried or stewed fish, rice with coconut, salad and patacones: a crunchy snack made of green plantain.
In Manzanillo beach you will have time to relax for a while before heading back to your accommodation in Cartagena. We know it is a completely different experience, but we are sure you will have the most unique memories of this trip.
The most advisable thing is that you wear clothes that keep you fresh as well as protect you from the sun. Sunglasses, hats and sunscreen, and comfortable sneakers are the most used pieces of clothing. We also recommend bringing extra clothes as you will be spending the day at the volcano and the Manzanillo beach.
The weather in Cartagena is usually warm (above 27 C°). However, the tour operates in all weather conditions.
From Cartagena City, it takes around 1 hour to get to the Volcano.
It is said that the natural properties of this volcano help to improve blood circulation and stimulates muscle relaxation. It also benefits skin health.
Around Manzanillo there are beaches where you can spend the day at. They are less touristic and crowded as the popular ones in Cartagena City.
