Overview

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city and come with us in this Villa de Leyva Tour to this beautiful old town on the outskirts of Bogotá. Visit the Sisga dam and Raquira town of pottery crafters on the way to Villa de Leyva and once there enjoy a full-day around its main spots: Pozos Azules (Blue Wells), Terracotta House, the Paleontological Museum and more. Discover its treasures by walking through its cobblestoned streets and live a day of contrasts.

What is the itinerary?

Villa de Leyva has always been very popular among tourists. Not only it has some of the most well-preserved colonial architecture in the country, but the city is rich in history, archeology, and surrounded by striking natural beauty.

First stops: Sisga and Raquira

On this full-day tour, our guide will pick you up at your hotel in Bogota and along with the driver they will take you to the first stop: the Sisga dam. From there you will head north to Raquira, a small traditional town, known for its pottery handcrafts. A short drive afterward, we’ll be in Villa de Leyva’s Square: the largest entirely cobbled square in South America.

Once in Villa de Leyva: visit its main spots

You will get to the Paleontological Museum, as the valley where Villa de Leyva is located is rich in fossils from the Cretaceous era. The story goes that a kid digging in his backyard tumbled into the first fossils.

Once ready, we’ll hike deeper into the hills to Pozos Azules. These mineral-rich pools reflect a blue-green sky on a clear day: a wonderful contrast to the surrounding semi-desert and pine-forests. These artificial water-reservoirs are too mineral-rich to bathe in or drink, but beautiful to contemplate.

From there we’ll jump to the Terracotta House, a bizarre but worth visiting 500 m² house made entirely of clay, that has been called the largest piece of pottery in the world and which actually is an entirely liveable house.

Let’s not forget the traditional food

During our Villa de Leyva Tour, you will rest your feet in a traditional restaurant, and have lunch while you prepare for the rest of the journey. And before finishing the tour, our guide will also take you to enjoy a delicious dinner around the town.

Afterward, you will be ready to finally head back to Bogota and keep the amazing memories of Villa de Leyva Town forever.
