We believe there is nothing more fascinating than diving into ancient stories, myths and legends that tell the origin of a place. If you agree with us, come to one of the richest sites in terms of ancestral history near Bogotá: Guatavita.
In this trip, the day begins when the guide picks you up in the hotel. He and the driver will take you across the city heading north to New Guatavita town. After a two-hour drive from busy Bogotá you will get to the first stop in the town. Here, with the views of Tominé reservoir you will hear the story of how come there is a town submerged beneath and why it was flooded.
Venture afterwards to the mystic Guatavita lagoon. To discover what this unique ecosystem has to offer there is short hike to the lake you will have to accomplish. On the shores of the lake, you will hear the old indigenous traditions that gave this lake its renown and the possible reasons behind the wonderous legend. You’ll find a place rich with colonial history and indigenous mythologies.
Once the guided tour at the lake finishes, you will be able to choose enjoying a traditional lunch with a wonderful view of the neighboring water reservoir before visiting the town’s artisanal market. Finally take in one last look and we’ll be on our way back to Bogotá.
You will call it day when the driver and the guide drop you of in your hotel again.
In this journey you will not find the city of legend, but a place rich with colonial history and indigenous mythologies. We are unsure it ever existed. But stories are meant to be told and we want to share this one with you!
